Does anyone know researchers or literature working in both OR modeling and demography or "population studies"?

I am doing work on a population forecasting methodology using quadratic programming to fit a transition matrix for age composition, which got me interested, but I would also be interested in modeling population outcomes (say, educated workforce participation with school investment as a variable, or whatever). There might be related work in optimizing anything that depends on biological reproduction (trees, cattle, etc), but I don't know about it yet....

I am also vaguely hopeful to find an outside member on a dissertation committee, which would be a professor working in the California public systems (UC, CSU) who concentrates on modeling not optimization algorithms.

Some links for demography, to give a flavor:

I can't help it: must think of Fibonacci numbers.... (sorry)
